Cabezas de San Juan, Fajardo

Between lighthouses and ecosystems: discover the ecological and cultural richness of Cabezas de San Juan

Explore one of Puerto Rico’s most stunning landscapes through an interpretive visit to the Cabezas de San Juan Nature Reserve. Throughout the tour, you’ll discover the diversity of marine and terrestrial ecosystems, as well as the rich biodiversity that makes this reserve truly unique. These areas not only host a wide variety of species but also play a vital role in climate regulation, coastal protection, and water purification.

We’ll delve into the stories of the community that fought to preserve this natural treasure and its connection to Puerto Rico’s navigation system, represented by the historic Lighthouse of Cabezas de San Juan. During the experience, you’ll also learn about the achievements of the green iguana population control program and appreciate how the arts help us understand and connect with our environment.

At the lighthouse, you’ll enjoy an exhibition of ceramics, paintings, and kinetic sculptures created by Carola Cintrón Moscoso, inspired by her relationship with the reserve. You’ll also discover The Wind Tunnel, a piece by artist Florian Dombois in collaboration with Puerto Rican artists Jaime and Javier Suárez. These new exhibits offer a contemporary perspective on the relationship between art, science, and nature, inviting reflection on our responsibility toward environmental conservation. Through this experience, you’ll see how the Cabezas de San Juan Nature Reserve not only protects invaluable ecosystems but also inspires creativity, learning, and environmental action.
